During
the first year, all students take a variety of courses in:
During the second year, three options are
available:
NEUROSCIENCE - YEAR ONE
FALL SEMESTER
-
PHPH 752A-- Neurobiology Basics
Module: Neuroanatomy
-
PHPH 752B--Neurobiology Basics
Module: Neurochemistry-Fundamental concepts
-
PHPH 752C--Neurobiology Basics
Module: Neurochemistry-Advanced concepts
-
PHPH 752D--Neurobiology Basics
Module: Neurophysiology
-
PHPH 752E--Neurobiology Basics
Module: Physiology for neurobiologists
-
PHPH 752F--Neurobiology Basics
Module: Neuropharmacology
-
PHPH 752G--Neurobiology Basics
Module: Molecular Neurobiology
-
PHPH 752H--Neurobiology Basics
Module: Quantitative methods in Neurobiology
-
PHPH 752I-- Neurobiology Basics
Students can also fulfill this requirement
by taking a mixture of PHPH752 modules, PHPH750-751 (Fundamental
Neuroscience series) and the BIOL 711,717,718 (cell and molecular
sciences track) series for a total of at least 9-10 credit hours.
Students can take some integration of two
tracks: for example BIOL 717 (Biological Chemistry-Proteins) plus 4
modules of PHPH752
Modules A (Neuroanatomy); B & C
(Neurochemistry); D (Neurophysiology); E (Physiology for
neurobiologists) and G (Molecular Neurobiology) are recommended for all
students. Either PHPH 752 B or BIOL 717 (Protein Biochemistry) is
required for taking 752C.
SPRING SEMESTER
-
PHPH753A: Stress, Anxiety Disorders
and the amygdala
-
PHPH753B: Stress, Depression and the
Hippocampus
-
PHPH753C: Degenerative diseases of
old age
-
PHPH753D: Chronic Pain & Analgesia
-
PHPH753E: Schizophrenia, Prefrontal
Cortex & Executive Function
-
PHPH753F: Epilepsy
Students may take some mixture of the two
tracks: For example BMSC 705
(Medical Cell Biology II) and one or two Neurobiology of Disease Modules
(PHPH753)
Fundamental Neuroscience I may be
substituted for PHPH752 A and D (Neuroanatomy & Neurophysiology)
Fundamental Neuroscience II may be substituted for PHPH752 C and G
(Neurochemistry & Molecular Neuroscience)
